Authentic
Several weeks ago I attended a talk with one of the most accomplished (Film & TV) producers of our generation. Amongst the many gems he shared, two remained in my orbit of consciousness.
Be authentic & know when to pivot
He elaborated on those two statements in particular because of his journey and how he defined success along the way. From working with upcoming creatives to Hollywood execs & acting heavyweights. Life challenges your authenticity very quickly when you are in spaces where you are not sure of who you are. Your brand or stats wont matter. People want authenticity and that is now trickling down even more so because of a shift that has been brewing in the entertainment industry. Algorithms and ready made fanbases have been favourable to some but not many and the cost of that is reaching it's total. The other point he made was -
"Quitting doesn't mean giving up, you're just changing direction"
I don't know when it started but its definitely been etched into many of us that upon hearing the word 'quit', comes the association of failure and it's hard to argue. In this case if the doors you're knocking on wont open, surely you must come to the realisation to find another door. While you are looking you must be able to readjust yourself so that when the next door opens you walk in with your head held high and are able to respond accordingly to whatever life may throw at you. The trick is to NOT let it stick.
The talk was a humbling experience because I was concentrating heavily on being present, which I think I may have forgotten to do. The usual scenario of emotions are inspiration and a desire to do even more but I challenged myself to be still and in the moment. Thus leading to a connection to the answers rather than the fantasy of success that builds up in my mind. The room was pulsating due to the ambience and energy from the host and impeccable questions. With celebrities and other talented individuals in attendance, I was able to grasp the words that filled the room with clarity and strong values.
The urge for a new life, chapter & routine is strong right now. At the centre of this calling is ownership. Owning who you are fully and everything that comes attached with you. Your ideas, your vision, worries, fears and bringing all that with you into new spaces. Yet with consistency and growth, some of those traits will fall behind slowly which will allow you to feel light enough to appreciate what you have built and who you are in every waking moment moving forward, rather than holding onto your past mistakes. Just make it known that you are here to take up space.
This is not a call to switch content or strategy but to continue with the belief in that your definitive approach is working in your highest favour. increase your prices, fumble your words if you have to. when someone asks you about your value, claim it!
Authenticity is on the rise and its not slowing down, people are withdrawing from the societal games that we've been forced to play in order to be perceived deemed as worthy but that metric system has broken down before it even started.
People have muttered that with where things are headed, we will need the real more than ever. The truth will be televised and like wildfire it will spread. If the shoe fits and you've been ignoring that voice telling you to take that leap of faith, what the hell are you waiting for? Maybe you need an encore.
