Ego

For the last few remaining months of 2025, ego unveiled itself to me in ways that I had no choice but to be ready for. I'm no stranger to observing myself but the layers that I was going through at the same time was and still is profound. The objective of the ego is solely to protect itself through you.

It makes you vulnerable and confused and has you thinking you are making the choices. So if you have an agenda of how you would like an interaction to go, best believe the ego is looking at how to sabotage it. Especially when you don't act on it. The constant surge of thoughts is it's method to persuade you to give it the opportunity to take over the situation. The everyday example is when you go home and ask yourself "why did I do/say that". People pleasing and overextending the role of a friend or father/mother are grey areas it can exploit.

There's no coincidence that it exists for so long because not only is it preinstalled in us. It has evolved to the point of constant metamorphosis. I believe it is one of the most advanced entities that is within each of us to explore and ultimately dismantle.

You reverse the roles when you figure out how to weaken it's grip over you. For those that would like to count any technicalities best believe it's your ego doing most of the heavy lifting. I use to think that people who have egos are those that are loud, boastful and quick to escalate situations. Not many use the word in the people pleasing manner. Yes it protects you but from what, potential embarrassment or shame or is it really protecting itself.

The Greeks and Egyptians have recorded tales about the ego and it's link to the human condition. They have been aware of how prevalent it is and how to avoid the downfalls if you don't separate yourself from it. In recent history some alter egos have become famous for their assistance in managing personas that can handle the pressure they are under in the worlds that they coexist in.

Nonetheless studies have been conducted about the links between the strain of personalities and bodily health. In 2023 according to Springer Nature, hostility traits have biological effects. Also in 2006, Current Directions in Psychological Science states that being negative constantly can lead to increased inflammation and long term decline.

Trying to bring balance to your mind and nervous is already difficult. Being under constant pressure from the human desires to "win", fit in and coexist. The effects eventually catch up to us down the road. Yea we can manifest what we put our minds to but it's hard to do if your body is worn out from just trying to survive.

Once you start to prioritise your needs and find what serves the soul and not the ego, you stop playing the game and that's when your path starts to clear up.

So is it really you vs you?
