Love Patterns: Boomerang
I've got heart
Advertising exec and poised bachelor Marcus Graham cruises through his paradigm of status, respect and adoration on a fine morning. One of the routines highlighted in his life is how fluently he attains the attention of women who want to cater to his needs. After the encounter with a beautiful woman and claiming he lost his fictional dog, they spend the night in each other's company. He shares his encounter with Gerard and Tyler. Gerard points out to Marcus that his tastes are too refined to which he responds,
"I'm looking for perfection"
He does the feet check and she fails. According to John Greenleaf, feet are tied to innocence and childhood, as it glorifies the perception of freedom from real-life requirements. Marcus is escaping reality to sustain the perfect image he's created to society's standards due to the emotional gaps in his upbringing.
In the conference room, they watch the presentation for Strangés perfume campaign. She's wearing a dress of thorns going through a pregnancy and gives birth to her fragrance. A deliverance and a miracle. It's Strangé's way or the highway. She religiously pays the price for her desires to be fulfilled. When we go through disappointments, we give birth to new and clearer perspectives from dark yet powerful places within us. When you own the process it is more seamless and the creations are more miracle-like.
Not just ideas but you as a whole, shedding mindsets for your journey ahead. Perfection is a false concept birthed from ego causing you to care about false images in order to survive. The sooner you let go the more powerful and secure you are in your true self.
"I don't want to be around no kids...I can't paint my miseries away"
Angela takes Marcus to see her art students to help him unwind and be around youthful and innocent energy. Against the idea initially, he paints and cheerfully engages with the students. He frees his mind from the frustration of the campaign and Jacqueline. He thanked Angela for the environment she provided and the inspiration. Feeling like a child again helps you tap into your happiness and understanding of how beautiful life can be and to just believe in yourself as a being and not of man-made labels. After Thanksgiving dinner with Gerard's parents (RIP John Witherspoon) Mr Jackson, his father notices that Marcus is crushing over someone and needs to tend to that situation. They all leave except Angela and washing up turns into a light-hearted and playful conversation.
The next evening Marcus is facing Jacqueline in a lustful position, he uses his inner strength and realises that the anguish she has put him through isn't worth it. He leaves almost gloating at the fact he has jumped a hurdle never thought possible and returns to Angela. That moment of clarity is how necessary Angela's presence is to him, her nurturing aura is demonstrated by her profession and polite manner.
The birthing process we go through in our lives and the emotions that tag along teach us new parts of ourselves. The strain our hearts and minds go through is why so many are blocked from truly experiencing being present, to the highs and lows of their journey. The courage it takes to rebuild yourself is not for the faint-hearted, for pain is only an indicator of growth. Enjoy the fruits with yourself and savour this experience through this circus of life. Keep shedding and eventually, you'll give birth to the greatest version of yourself which allows you to enjoy all that there is, nothing more or less. Our journey is about mastering ourselves which doesn't equal perfection. Deeper the appreciation, the deeper the wisdom.
