Time Capsule Series: Interstellar

 I'm afraid of time

This piece didn't have any indications of horror like its other well-known counterparts that uphold the genre. The atmosphere was being filled with suspense with the aid of the soundtrack playing through the auditorium. I was a junior pilot getting ready to board the enterprise. Space travel, extinction and search for life were themes I understood quite well but what immersed underneath the crew simply trying to just set up shop light-years away was remarkably profound.

Ironic words from a senior physicist, Professor Brand. His wisdom acquired through age allowed him to make peace with death. It was his life's work being put to the test in dire circumstances that lead to his uncertainty about time. A scientist surrendering to truth outside of themselves is a deeply humbling experience, Einstein also reiterated this realization. He might not have been referring to the conclusion of 'time running out' but time as an organism.

Space and time always stir questions within us. When we don't have a firm grip on a subject, it leads to the arousal of fear quite quickly. The genre's location is it's biggest asset, constantly generating the edge-of your-seat reflex. Nothing is guaranteed and the character that is the calmest is who we champion, with anxiety coursing through us. As for time, it's fragility is ushered to the forefront of our attention in times of great despair or a moment of euphoria. The measurement of time is illustrated within these focal points through the motion picture.

Murph's finest instrument was her heightened instincts which lead to the discovery and purpose of the gravitational anomaly, thus leading to the conclusion of preparations for their complex voyage. Once the crew had made the journey; the light-years separated them from our universe's time circumference which led to the wide age gap during the expedition.

The strategies that the crew were able to draw up, hung in the balance of a crew member from a previous reconnaissance mission. The source of Amelia's desire changed the course of the voyage; due to the all-in-favour understanding of how difficult it can be in any circumstance, to ignore the withdrawal symptoms of affection for another being.

Cooper's cognitive mind and instinct were demonstrated in times of great crisis. The emotionless information provided by T.A.R.S formed a partnership more reliable than that with humans. Their cooperation allowed data to be transferred to Murph to spark a chain reaction of events to alter the timeline. Constantly readapting to a source of unlimited information being shared through a sentient like device, was highlighted in the light dimension. The capability of sending information through a streamline of light codes from the future to the past is an accurate depiction of time travel. Murph accepted her father's connection beyond visible understanding which allowed her to see her purpose to solve mankind’s complication.

Making a conscious effort to perceive time as more than just numbers but as an organism, can shift our perspectives to challenge and face new patterns of understanding within ourselves. To be afraid of time is to be afraid of love. For when these two elements synchronize, a new universe is created. Having the capacity to accept information that's non-conforming can alter your reality, it may seem emotionless and sentient but deciphering the source of information can steer us to suggestions proposed with our well-being in mind.
